From Hospital to Haiti

From Hospital to Haiti, Guy Andrews, father of two, fought for his life last summer.
Now, he is reaching out to Haitian children who have lost their churches, homes, fathers and mothers following the magnitude 7.0 earthquake on Jan. 12 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The disaster killed hundreds of thousands of people, and left even more Haitians homeless.
In June 2009, a virus struck down Andrews, landing him in the ICU. He was barely holding onto life with the support of a ventilator. He was unconscious and not expected to live. His children Matthew and Ashleigh were devastated to hear their father might not live through the night. With prayers and support of family, after eight days he came home to make a full recovery.

As a single father, his children's experience as well as his own touched Andrews. Andrews was moved watching the devastation and loss of life suffered by parents and children after the earthquake in Haiti.

Answering the call God placed on his heart to be thankful, he has chosen to give back to the people of Haiti. He desires to share hope, including another chance at life, that God and others helped him to have. Guy is a skilled construction worker and he will lend his expertise in construction to help rebuild a church in Haiti, which will provide the foundation for future assistance to the needy. He will join a team led by his sister Karen and husband, Rev. Sam Knapp. They have supported orphanages in Haiti since 2003.

We request your prayers and financial assistance so Guy can share his construction skills and compassion to help the needy, especially orphans. During the nearly two-week mission at the end of March, Andrews helped provide humanitarian aid, as well as construction supplies and job skills.

Please continue to keep the Haiti Mission Team in prayer. Here is an excerpt from their blog yesterday as they tried to share the gospel at the tent city in Port-au-Prince. One member of their team, Troy was attacked by someone trying to rob him. The attacker told Troy:

"I hate you!" and pulled out a knife and tried to stab Troy - don't freak - Troy just felt a pressure on his side, it didn't penetrate or even rip his shirt. It happened very fast and all along Troy was still trying to tell the guy that he really didn't have any money.

Just then a small man came out of nowhere and said, "You need to leave now; that man is a Voodoo priest." The voodoo priest's
cronies started to climb on the guys' backs as to bring them down and Troy created a diversion by flipping open Sam's backpack spilling its contents (7- booklets of the Gospel of John in French) and they were able to walk away safely.

You can follow their other stories on their blog site:

The team consists of about 20 people. Two teams from America, one from a church and one from the Christian Motorcyclists Association. The CMA team includes Carol's brother, Guy Andrews, and Carol's sister, Karen, with her husband Rev.Sam Knapp, and six others. They are ministering the Word of God in churches and home of pastors in the city of Port-au-Prince when they are not rebuilding churches and pastors' homes. They will be in Haiti until March 30th.

We are reminded of the five Christian missionaries who were killed in the jungles of Ecuador in the 1950's featured in the movie "End of the Spear." The were trying to reach people who did not know the love of
Christ. The difference here is that the gospel has been shared in Haiti and many, like the man who attacked Troy, have made a choice to reject God. Our prayers go out to bind any and all ungodly presence, that faith
and forgiveness will be present in the teams heart and all their loved ones back home. May the power of the Holy Spirit go before them as they continue their mission work in Haiti.

In Christ Service,
Steve and Carol Carlyle
